A REFURBISHMENT Story of the GERMAN SILVER Plated Vase

Phase 1 Cleaning With Baking Powder.

The first stage is to remove the metal surface from oil and so on. cleaning from dirt.

For this, we wet the baking powder slightly with a soft toothbrush and apply it to the surface.

In metal cleaning, you should use base-based substances instead of acid-based substances. Because acid-based substances react chemically with metal and cause corrosion.

Baking powder is a base-based substance that you can use in metal cleaning. It does not react chemically with metal. Moreover, it does not scratch the metal surface.

Therefore, you can safely use the baking powder in metal cleaning, dry or slightly wet.

When the cleaning process is finished, the baking powder will freeze and form a thin layer on the surface. Wipe off this solidified layer with a soft cloth or paper napkin. All oil and dirt will come out on this layer together.

Phase 2 Cleaning With WD-40 Spray

In the second step, we will remove stains such as rust, metallic oil that the baking powder cannot remove.

We will use WD-40 spray for this. Spray WD-40 onto the metal surface and rub the surface with a toothbrush.

Wait for half an hour, then wipe the surface with a dry cloth.

Phase 3: Polishing Process. Polish With Baking Soda

You cannot polish it without cleaning. So far we have removed different types of dirt and rust from the metal surface. Now we can proceed with the polishing process.

In the first stage, we said that we do not use acid-based materials in metal cleaning. Because they react and damage the metal surface.

For example, if you clean metal with vinegar, lemon, lemon juice, they seem to shine at first, but after a short time they get darker.

Because when you finish cleaning and remove them, the acid and metal continue to react.

The same is true for glass and ceramics for base-based materials.

In other words, base-based substances such as soda, baking soda, baking soda, detergent, soap erode glass and ceramic surfaces and react with them. If you are going to clean glass and porcelain, with slightly acidic materials such as lemon, you will get good results in the short term and you will not find your products darkened even more after a week.

In the meantime, do not clean by mixing acid and base materials. For example, baking soda with vinegar. If you do, they will react and create gases that can damage your lungs.

Use base-based substances such as baking soda, toothpaste, bleach to polish the metal surface. We use baking soda here.

We dilute the baking soda slightly and apply it to the surface with a soft toothbrush. After this process, wait a while for the surface to dry.

Then clean the baking soda residues from the surface with a dry cloth.

Phase 4: Final Stage of Polishing: Polishing Paste Application

The last step of the polishing job is to apply metal cream, which you can easily find in all hardware stores, to the surface.

At the last stage of the polishing process that we started with baking soda, we apply metal cream on the surface and spread it over the entire surface with a cloth.

Wait for an hour and wait for the cream to penetrate the surface well.

Then, we complete the process by wiping the surface of the metal again with a clean and soft cloth.
